Description

This was inspired by How to Train Your Dragon. I absolutely LOVE that series, and I HAD to draw my little character with my dragon!

My character (still being named, for the moment) is a reader and a thinker, much like Hiccup. She was born with white hair, thin and frail limbs, and bright blue eyes. This made her the hiccup of her tribe, the Fisher Tribe. Her tribe trades fish inland for merchandise...but they are also a cruel and violent tribe. They would make war and take over a village before negotiating. She did not like this, nor did she think like them at all. She was always curious about dragons, though very cautious. She believed that if she could train a dragon, they would be good tools for their fishing. It was only through Hiccup that she learned they were more than simply tools...they were companions.

The Ice Claw dragon is a lone dragon. He lives in icebergs and caves that are frozen as can be. He thrives on the cold. His very breath is cool to feel. When he eats, if it's not frozen already, he breaths ice onto it and eats it that way. He cannot ingest warm or hot food, otherwise, he'll fall ill. He has a layer of ice on his muzzle that measures how healthy he is. It keeps the air coming into his nostrils cold, as well. If the ice starts to melt and thin, he's getting too hot. It means he needs to find a cold place to rest. Much like someone with a cold needs a warm blanket to sleep in, this dragon needs a frozen bath or an icy bed to sleep in. His black claws are long, so he can grip the ground and dig through ice to dig his home. The pick on his tail can lock him into place, in case the ice becomes too slippery to quickly handle. He is quick to anger, as he does not usually socialize with other dragons. He is of an uncommon breed, especially in the area that Hiccup and our heroine live. Most of his kind live more north or deep in the south in Antarctica.

Our heroine discovered him while exploring an iceberg with Hiccup. In that time, the Ice Claw attacked her to defend his home...scratching her face in the process. She was brought back to Berk to heal. She wanted to try to study the dragon, too curious to simply leave it. So, again, she went, this time with fish in hand. After many trips to see the Ice Claw, she soon earned his trust, and she named him Ryme.

Yes, I took a picture of Hiccup and Toothless to get this angle and pose, but it was only inspiration. I had to change quite a bit to get the legs, arms, and everything else right. The background probably took me a good couple hours to do! GAH!

How to Train Your Dragon is (c) to Dreamworks. These two are mine, though.
